What is MCAT?

MCAT stands for Medical College Admission Test. This is an exam for those who wish to study at the U.S. School of Medicine.

MCAT is a standardized test with multiple choice questions that assesses the skills of a future student, namely: the ability to solve complex problems, critical thinking and knowledge of the natural and social sciences that serve as a prerequisite for studying medicine.

Almost all U.S. medical schools require MCAT results. It is worth noting that the results of the exam are valid for three years.

Format

The test consists of four parts that contain multiple-choice questions:

  • Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems.
  • Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills.
  • Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems.
  • Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior

When taking the MCAT, a student can score from 1 to 15 points in each of the four sections of the test. The end result is the total score of all sections.

Results are available 30-35 days after the test. A student can find out this information on the official MCAT website by going to the “Get Your Test Scores” section.

It is worth remembering that the test results are also automatically sent to the American Medical Admission Commission (AMCAS), which was created by the Association of Medical Schools of the United States. This means that you do not need to worry about the timely sending of results to your chosen faculty. However, this also means that you will not be able to hide unwanted / low test results.

Registration and payment

The registration process is quite simple and takes place on the official testing site. Payment for the test ranges from 315 to 370 dollars, depending on whether you register in advance or at the last moment. Also, there is an additional fee for canceling registration for the test and changing the test date. You can pay online with a credit card.
