The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardized test conducted in English that helps business schools assess the level of knowledge of applicants for training in business and management.
Who passes the GMAT test and why?
Future students of business schools who have basically already received bachelor’s education are taking the GMAT test. The GMAT assessment results complement other student qualifications when applying for studies at business schools and are important for admissions and various scholarship programs. GMAT test results allow you to compare students’ qualifications according to the same criteria and help the selection committee better evaluate other documents submitted by the candidate, for example, a diploma and recommendations.
Who founded the testing?
Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC®) – was founded in 1953 by the association of the nine most prestigious business schools.
Who recognizes the test results?
Any business school is accredited (usually these are MBA programs), and business management departments may require or recommend their future students to take the GMAT test.
How to register?
There are four ways to register for GMAT:
- Online registration
- Telephone Registration
- fax machine
- post office
After registration, an “admission ticket” is issued.
What is the cost of the test?
The GMAT test fee is $ 250, excluding taxes and fees.
What is the structure of the test?
The GMAT consists of four sections, each of which has a specific time period.
Section | Time/Number of tasks | Types of Estates | Points |
---|---|---|---|
Assessment of the analytical letter | 30 minutes/1 task | Argument analysis | 0-6 (in increments of 0.5 points) |
Integrated thinking | 30 minutes/12 tasks | Statistical analysis, graphs, tables, multiple choice | 1-8 (in increments of 1 point) |
Quantitative part | 62 minutes/31 quest | Problem solving | 6-51 (in increments of 1 point) |
Verbal part | 65 minutes/36 tasks | Correction of sentences, critical argumentation and understanding of the written text, etc. | 6-51 (in increments of 1 point) |
What is an adaptive computer format?
The first two sections are designed for analytical skills; the second two sections (quantitative and verbal / oral) consist of various multiple-choice questions posed in a computer-adapted format. That is, the questions in these sections are selected dynamically by the computer during the test; multiple-choice questions (multiple choice) are tailored to your level of ability, which is why each test is unique.
What is the total test time?
In general, the test lasts 4 hours, given the breaks between the different sections of the test.
How are the results determined?
Your rating is determined in accordance with:
- the number of questions you answered.
- the correctness or incorrectness of the answers provided.
- level of complexity and other statistical characteristics of each question.
The questions included in the adaptation section of the test are not evaluated according to their sequence, but according to their level of complexity and other statistical properties.
What is the format of the results?
In general, a GMAT test result can range from 200 to 800 points. Two-thirds of test participants receive between 400 and 600 points. GMAT results themselves are valid for 5 years.
The rating of each section is based on the average score from all tasks in the section. Each task has its own independent result. The overall result is an arithmetic mean score.
Evaluation of analytical writing is usually determined from 0 to 6 (intervals of half a point).
If you decide to receive your official score of the test (Score Report) in the electronic version, you will be sent via e-mail within 20 calendar days from the date of testing.
